OG online gamers would know the “3 musketeers” of internet voice calling programs – TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, and Skype. Well, the S is on death row now.
Officially announced by Microsoft, Skype will be shutted down on May 5, marking the long decline for the once-dominant communication platform. The Windows maker, on the other hand, encourages everyone to move over to Teams where voice chat services are provided for free, just like Skype.
However, the business version of the blue S was discontinued back in 2021 due to drop in popularity which foreshadowed the same problem for its free consumer version as other platforms like Discord rose and took over the world as the top community-focused platform that supports large scale member management and open-source development via bots and scripts.
As a Skype User, What Do I Do
To make the transition easier, Microsoft has made it super direct. Just log in with your Skype credentials in Teams, and you’ll see that you can actually log in despite not utilizing Teams even once. Once logged in, you’ll find your contacts, chat, and stuff migrated over there.
